The Bible Online
Knowledge of God and Christianity begins with the Sacred Scriptures, the Bible. Thankfully numerous translations of it can be found online. If you're curious which version is best for you, read about Bible translations.
azcoyote: ClayBible
Here on this very web site is a page wherein you can look up specific verses quickly in multiple translations, including the Douay-Rheims Bible (DRB) and the Latin Vulgate (LVB). The Vulgate is still the official translation of the Catholic Church, even after Vatican II.
The New American Bible (NAB)
A good translation supported by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the basis of the current lectionary (that is, the Mass readings come from it, after some revisions). Highly recommended.
Downloadable Bibles (RSV-CE & more)
A downloadable version of the Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (RSV-CE, a good, recommended translation), the Novo Vulgata (a more recent edition of the Vulgate), and a Chinese Bible.
The Revised Standard Version (RSV)
A good, very literal translation. This is not exactly the same as the RSV-CE (The Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition), but it contains the deuterocanonical books and some extracanonical books, although it groups them all under “Apocrypha.”
Douay-Rheims Bible Online (DRB & LVB)
The Douay-Rheims Bible, and the Clementine Latin Vulgate without punctuation.
Vulgata Clementina
The Clementine Vulgate with punctuation and introduction and fully searchable online. The Vulgate is still the official translation of the Catholic Church, even after Vatican II.
Bible Gateway
The Bible in 69 translations into 31 modern languages, including 20 in English. There’s a search page and a topical index. Includes the New International Version (NIV) and the New American Standard Bible (NASB), but not any Catholic translations or deuterocanonical books.
The Septuagint (LXX)
The ancient Greek translation of the Old Testament (pre-dating the birth of Jesus) in unicode format.
TanakhML Project
A fabulous site featuring the Hebrew scriptures in unicode. All of the words can are linked for cross-referencing, and accents and cantillation marks can be shown or hidden. It also contains the King James Version (KJV) for reference.
The Tanakh
The Hebrew scriptures, but not in unicode, so it might not display perfectly on all computers. The site also has other useful resources, especially on Judaism.
