My second Warcraft III map is a remake of an old classic, “The Changeling Beta,” which was based on “The Thing” from Starcraft, which was based on the movie by John Carpenter, which was a remake of an older movie, The Thing From Another World.
It is a minigame where up to 11 players are space marines stranded on an alien world. Each game one person at random is The Changeling, and he can morph into different things at will. He can turn into many different animals and objects, to fool the others. He can also reveal his true form as a monster in order to rip them apart. He has to kill all of the marines, preferably before they as a whole figure out who he is.
The marines, on the other hand, have to either kill the changeling or survive until they are rescued in 18 minutes. They can use many items that they find scattered about among the ship's wreckage, including grenades; however, the changeling, in his marine form, can also find and use the items.
For the changeling, it is a game of stealth and deceit, where you try to fool and destroy your enemies. the changeling is by far more powerful than the marines, but not strong enough to take them on in a group. He has to split them up and kill them one by one, using intelligence. For the marines, it is a game of teamwork. If the marines all work together, the changeling can hardly beat them; the problem is getting them to work together.
Overall, it is a very social game, not fast-paced carnage. It's a good replacement for the classic. It requires The Frozen Throne expansion to play.

- Game time reduced to 18 minutes from 20.
- Changeling now mutates into Changeling OMEGA.
- Energy Boost (+10% attack, +4 armor) changed to Defense Matrix (+5 armor).
- Fixed typos all around, improved Help.
- Fixed it so Stim Pack and Defense Matrix cannot be cast on Changeling (except marine).
- Fixed bug caused by latest patch that gave grenades a cooldown.
- Increased grenade air time to 1.5 seconds from 1 second.
- Increased period between item spawns to 55 seconds from 50 seconds.
- Map changes, including ability to get on ledge near crash site, and pit near the middle.
- Improved blocker placement to keep Changeling off of crash site peaks.

- Changeling HP increased by 50 to defend against grenades.
- Changeling area of effect damage increased.
- Most Changeling forms immune to magic (tornados).
- Increased vulture form speed.
- Probably other stuff I've forgotten.
