Quick Latin Reference

Spring 2004 I was bent on passing my Latin final but overall I had done terrible in the class the whole semester. So, I sat down and spent hours making an HTML Latin reference. In my class our tests were open book, but speed was a big issue. I did fine with the concepts and not bad with the endings, but vocabulary was my biggest problem, so I used a vocabulary program on my laptop that the professor had specifically OKed, and I used this Latin reference to speed up my ability to look up endings if I couldn't think of them.

Also, in writing this reference I learned the endings MUCH better because I had to type each and every one of them and mark which vowels were long. I'm amazed at myself; I typed out almost every ending, two semesters worth of material, in just a few days, and I still managed to have an overactive social life. The reference is quick and simple to use, with a sharp layout.

For posting it on this site I made it Netscape/Mozilla compatible. However, the individual charts are not 100% compatible; I decided that I didn't have time to convert every single page to XHTML. All of the content is still visible though.

By using any materials on this page you certify that you will NOT use them in any situation where they would be prohibited (I was allowed to use them in a test, you may not be). Also, I am not responsible if you do. And finally, if you download the reference you may not post it anywhere on the Internet. If you wish to link to it on your own web page, please link to this page.

Please report ANY errors you find, whether in the web page or in the Latin content, by emailing me, so I can fix them. Thanks!

Latin WORDS Program

William Whitaker made a brilliant program that pulls apart any Latin word and gives you the definition, the declension/conjugation, gender, case/person, and any other information about the word. There is also a meanings-only version that does not give any information other than the meaning; I was allowed to use that one on my test. It's a very small program, fits on two floppy disks, free for online use or download.
